DNA Fragmentation Test for Veterinary Use
Halomax® is an in vitro diagnostic kit that allows the measurement of sperm DNA fragmentation in different animal species. Halomax® offers a better evaluation of semen quality since a traditional spermiogram fails to take in account the most important parameter, which is the quality of the genetic material that the sperm cell will transmit to the oocyte. Elevated sperm DNA fragmentation has a negative impact on pregnancy rates and litter size.
Halomax® is useful in the early selection of breeding males as sperm DNA fragmentation is predictive of the animal’s reproductive capacity. Halomax® can also be used to monitor a breeding male’s fertility as sperm DNA fragmentation is sensitive to external factors that can influence semen quality including vaccinations, infections or pathologies such as varicocele. Lastly, Halomax® can be used as a quality control as sperm DNA fragmentation may be sensitive to iatrogenic damage induced by sperm diluents, cryoprotectants, freezing and refrigeration processes, and any other manipulation such as sperm sexing procedures.
Halomax® has a specific kit for each species including Bull, Sire (dog), Stallion (horse), Jack (donkey), Buck (mouse), Boar and Ram. If you are interested in measuring sperm DNA fragmentation in a different species, please let us know and we will manufacture a specific kit to suit your needs.
